Inbound SMS Text Integration: Requirements and Implementation Guide

Integrating Inbound SMS with K4Connect allows you to streamline communication by enabling select whitelisted mobile numbers to post directly to a community feed via text message. This article outlines the key benefits, requirements, and implementation steps for getting started.

Key Benefits

  • Simplified Communication: Staff can send announcements via SMS that appear directly in the community feed, enhancing visibility and engagement.

  • Controlled Access: Only pre-approved, whitelisted, phone numbers can send messages, maintaining message integrity and preventing unauthorized use.

  • Custom Identity: Display an alias such as “Community Staff” or “Community Management” in the K4Community Plus app instead of the originating phone number, adding a professional and recognizable touch to communications.

Requirements

  • Whitelisted Phone Numbers: Provide a list of mobile numbers that are authorized to send text messages to the community feed.

  • Alias Name: Choose a display name to replace the originating phone number in the K4Community Plus app posts.

  • Enablement Date: Coordinate with K4Connect to agree upon a specific date for activation of the integration.

Implementation

  1. Initial Consultation: K4Connect will schedule a call to discuss your needs, collect necessary details, and finalize the configuration scope.

  2. Configuration and Enablement: The Integrations Team at K4Connect will configure the system and activate it as well as provide you with the number to text updates to. We'll activate the integration on the mutually agreed-upon enablement date.

  3. SMS Activation: Once active, any message sent from a whitelisted number to the designated K4Connect number will be posted as a community announcement with the custom label you selected.

  4. Security Enforcement: Messages sent from numbers not included in the whitelist will be ignored, ensuring that only authorized users can post updates.
