If another resident in your community has an Alexa device and they have not opted out of the Directory you can make a call to their Alexa device from your Alexa.
If you're having trouble making a call to another resident make sure to:
- Say their name the way it appears in the directory. For instance, if their name is William, but they're listed in the directory as Bill, you'll need to use the name Bill to make the call.
- Confirm they're not opted out of the directory. Any resident who is opted out of the directory cannot receive calls over their Alexa device. If their name doesn't appear in the directory in K4Community Plus, then they have opted out.
- Confirm your Alexa device is plugged in and online. The Alexa uses VOIP (voice over internet protocol) to make the call to the other Alexa devices. If your device is not connected to the internet, it won't be able to make the call. Check the connection by asking something like "What's the weather?". If she's not connected, she'll let you know.
- Confirm your device is not on mute. If the Alexa has a constant red ring or light and the mute button is illuminated red, the device is muted and will not receive any commands. To unmute, press the mute button. Here's an article with more on what the different color lights mean for Alexa.
