This article explains how to access and control your K4Community Smart Home devices using the K4Community Plus app on both web and mobile. Here we provide step-by-step instructions for operating lights, fans, and thermostats remotely through the Home Controls section of the app.
Home Controls are available for communities with a Smart Home subscription. Home Controls may not be available in your app depending on your community's available services.
Web - Open Home Controls
- In the web app, go to the left-hand navigation panel.
- Click Home Controls > Devices
Mobile - Open Home Controls
- On the mobile app go to the bottom menu
- Tap on More > Home Controls
- You'll default to looking at the devices section of Home Controls
Controlling Lights
There are two different types of lights you'll see in your Home Controls. On/Off switches and dimmers.
- To operate an on/off switch tap the button to toggle between on and off.
- To operate dimmers drag the slider left and right to adjust brightness.
Controlling Thermostats
Thermostat changes may take a moment when switching between heating and cooling modes.
- Select the thermostat you want to control.
- Review the current temperature and mode displayed on the device.
- To change the mode click the dropdown field and select from:
- Heat: Ensures your home stays at or above a given temperature
- Cool: Ensures your home stays at or below a given temperature
- Auto Mode: Automatically switches between Heat and Cool modes to keep your home within a chosen range
- Magic Mode: Automatically switches between Heat and Cool modes to keep your home with 3 degrees of a chosen temperature. It's like Auto Mode but you only have to choose one number
- Off - Turns the system off so that it neither heats or cools
- To change the set temperature, use the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons to increase or decrease the temperature
Controlling Fans
The fan controls are similar to the dimmers except the slider has 4 settings: Off, Low, Medium, and High
- Drag the control to the desired speed or click/tap directly on the desired setting.
Cautionary Notes
- Confirm the correct device and room before making changes to avoid adjusting the wrong equipment.
- Thermostat changes may take a moment when switching between heating and cooling modes.
- If a device does not respond, verify your app is connected and reboot your smart home controller. See Can't Control Smart Home Devices with K4Community Plus for more troubleshooting tips.
